I managed to drop a buy in at The Vic last night (-£220). It seemed to be one of them evening where nothing seemed to go right (or maybe I just played bad...). I haven't recorded a losing for a while, so the feeling of getting stacked was hard to accept (at least for 6 minutes!).
I did however manage to stay even and build a stack early into the session. I was actually +£150.
One particular hand I was able to act upon my knowledge of a player's character, and recent tendencies of my opponents to take a +£100 down uncontested pre flop.
A loose aggressive donkey raised from my right in middle position up to £15. With AK suited I decided to smooth call, with an intention to trap / "rope the dope" post flop.
The action folded around to the big blind, who raised it up to £50. I know this particular guy to be a pretty solid tournament player, however I knew because of his inexperience on the cash tables, and the fact that he was winning (therefore be lacking to gamble his profit) I would be able to get him off any holding with the exception of KK,AA.
So when the loose aggressive donkey called the raise, there was enough in the pot to execute the steal re raise. I pushed all in for an additional £170, and after several minutes of moaning both opponents folded. JJ and QQ.
That's good solid aggressive poker!
Well that was a positive side of my session...here are some negatives....
I flop an open ended straight flush draw, only to play it passively against top pair top kicker, calling all the way to the river, then betting out when I missed. Obviously I got called. That was a +£300 pot.
Then the hand that got me stacked...there are several limpers, including the button when the small blind to my right (the loose aggressive donkey!) makes it £15 to play.
I pick up QQ in the big blind and pop it up to £55. Action folds around to the button who re raises and puts me all in. Small blind folds, action on me. Call or fold.
I don't see how any competent player can slow play, not raise on the button with KK when there has been several limpers before him. I really don't. So I put him on a steal or AK at best, so I call.
He has KK, and Yigit is stacked. Weeeeeee!
I really have a huge urge to play the "big game", £3-£3 Pot Limit. £100 minimum buy in, no maximum buy. I always look over and see a bunch of donkeys pushing chips back and forth the table.
I realise I don't have the bankroll to play in that game. But I feel like taking a shot. I might take £2000 and see how I go. Buy in for £500 / £600, so give myself 4 shots. If I run good, then well I am good! If I run bad. Then I drop down to the small games and grind.
I don't know. Something to consider.
Well, I got to go....
Yigit (a little upset...) out!
